Samcedes Week | Day 6 (Fantasy World)
Samuel did not have a royal background. Had the king not taken notice of his great strength and good heart, he wouldn’t have been where he was now, in the royal city with rich citizens waving at him and blowing kisses. He wouldn’t have been a knight.
Today was a big day. People came from all over the kingdom to watch princes from all over the continent come and try to impress Princess Mercy. Some lifted weights, some sang, and one prince even juggled on a unicycle. The princess would smile and graciously wave the men away, waiting for the next. Samuel stood by with the rest of the citizens and every now and again, he and the princess would lock eyes.
They both knew she couldn’t marry a knight. Her father wanted her wed royal blood and a family rich in history. All he could offer her was his sword, a horse, and a history of farmers. Every time Princess Mercy waved away another suitor, he got more anxious, knowing that when the day came to a close, he would see her.
When weeks passed and the princess still hadn’t chosen a suitor, the king chose one for her. He felt she was abusing her power to choose her husband and claimed he would have none of it. As usual, the queen nodded along with whatever he said. Mercy was the sole heir to the throne, and she was required to marry before that could ever happen, even though the king still had many, many more years of rule ahead of him.
He made a decision, and Princess Mercy was going to marry Prince Noah of Lurona. He was cocky, good looking, and played about six instruments. Other girls in the kingdom were falling over the teen, but Mercy wasn’t interested. She was already in love.

“What do you even know about her?” Mercedes asked from her comfortable spot on Sam’s bed. He swiveled around in his desk chair and looked at her. This wasn’t the first time they’d had this conversation because lately, all conversations with her best friend ended with him musing about Quinn Fabray and what he could do to win her heart.
“I know she’s special,” he said, biting his lip.
“Really? Because she seems like every other airhead Cheerio to me,” she replied, sitting up on the side of the bed.
“You don’t get it, Mercedes.”
“What don’t I get?”
“Have you ever even been in love?” he asked, raising a skeptical eyebrow. She went quiet and avoided his gaze. The question caught her off guard and she immediately wanted to say yes, that she was in love right now. With him. But she stopped herself, knowing if he was after someone like Quinn, he’d never be into her like that. She didn’t let it bother her; she was fine with being his best friend.
